Lifedrawing 07/05/13

This session we were also asked to move away from drawing everything in the centre of the page and instead try to move things around using all or some of the pose and see if we could come up with something more interesting from the norm:

I tried putting the first 3 poses together in the same space.

Movie poster for a classic horror or murder mystery.

Propaganda poster (I've been playing a lot of Bioshock Infinite).

Thinking Too Hard

For the Boulder Art Blog:

I don't like cats.... I do like dogs.

Ah no, cats are ok.

Lifedrawing 16/04/13

First class I've been at since being on crutches, it was too much trouble up until now. I even lent one of em to the model... that's how sound I am!

Some blind, contour drawings... I think you can tell which ones I was peeking at.

Finally, while I don't think these two drawings are very good, the contour line dividing the two poses seems to work for both of them. Almost like an optical illusion... a happy accident!

Mega Man

For the art blog in Boulder.

Besides being a fantastic game, Mega Man 2 is the first Nintendo game I ever rented which makes it one of my fondest memories of being a kid. It's soundtrack is also still one of the best. Here's Mega Man facing off against Metal Man, long live 8-bit games!

I'd also like to show how misleading the box art was to the in-game graphics:

Ridiculous... but still awesome.

Lifedrawing 18/12/12

The power supply on my pc blew up just before christmas so it was out of action for a few weeks, hence I got out of the habit of posting stuff on the blog but anyway, back in action now.

I decided not to use charcoal or pencil for this class opting for watercolours instead. I didn't think I'd enjoy it at all but it was a lot of fun so I'll use them again in the future. I also noticed that I seem to avoid drawing legs so I'll try remedy that next time.

Go Baltimore!

Tiny Rex

I should have posted this up immediately so I'm a tad late but... fair play to Bob Robinson who gave me this model he made for my birthday of a picture I painted a few months ago for a small auction... which he subsequently bought. Thanks man, it's cool and I'm chuffed with it. You can check out his website here which I highly recommend you do. I'd also like to take this moment to say the iPhone 3's camera fucking sucks...

For the sake of scale

And his little house where he goes to sleep

Bob, please don't expect as good a pressie from me on your birthday........ hope you like boiled eggs with hilarious faces painted on them!

Eilidh

This one is a bit of a double-edged-sword for me. I did this photoshop painting for my girlfriend's neice's 3rd birthday. Due to time constraints I used the eye-dropper tool on the original photo for picking colours. So while I'm happy with the finished painting, I also feel like I cheated which dilutes the satisfaction.

I try not to use the eye-dropper tool as much as possible and pick the colours myself to help improve my colour theory.

So am I a big fat fraud or does the end justify the means? If anybody has any opinion on what I'm talking about, I'd love to hear it.

Lifedrawing 6/11/12

The drawings above were 1 and 2 minute drawings. The drawings below however, the model would do a pose and we had 2 minutes to draw how we thought it looked from 90 degrees to the right of what we were looking at. Pretty interesting exercise, fun too.

Lifedrawing 23/10/12

A couple of quick 2 minute sketches from last week's lifedrawing session. Haven't done lifedrawing in ages so it took most of the session to shake out the cobwebs. Good craic though.
